CipSoft - Lightning Wizards

Lightning Wizards was an ambitious game prototype exploring real-time multiplayer mechanics with micropayments via the Bitcoin Lightning Network in a browser environment. The project focused on creating a strategic battle experience where players could place troops on a global map by paying sub-cent amounts, which would then attack enemies and collect resources. In contrast to regular Bitcoin transactions, the Bitcoin Lightning Network as an L2 technology enables very fast and simple payments of the smallest amounts with very low transaction fees. As part of a CipSoft innovation initiative, I implemented a browser game with a payment system that accepts payments via the Bitcoin Lightning Network and places figures on a global game board in return. These then fight each other and attempt to collect resources for their player. The game logic was simple, and even though the game was not particularly successful, it fulfilled its purpose as a prototype: it demonstrated the real-time capabilities of the Bitcoin Lightning Network and provided CipSoft with valuable information about the possibilities of blockchain technologies in game development.
